A MAN has been charged with murdering a Filipina mother-of-five whose battered body was found dumped in the front yard of a house in Melbourne in December.
Homicide detectives arrested 43-year-old Dinilo Miranda Guingab - who police say is an Australian citizen of Filipino descent - at his home in Point Cook, in Melbourne's south-west shortly after 10am (AEDT) today.
He's expected to appear in the Magistrate's Court around 12.30pm today.
The body of the 50-year-old woman, believed to be Luvina Dayang, was found wrapped in garbage bags at View Road in the south-eastern suburb of Springvale, on December 12.
Ms Dayang had been assaulted and police believe she was murdered close to where her body was dumped.
She was last seen on Tuesday, December 11, and police believe she was murdered late that night, or early in the following morning.
Last month, investigators revealed that Ms Dayang had arrived in Australia on a visitor's visa in July 2006. It had since expired.
They believe she had left her husband and five adult children in the Philippines to start a new life in Australia and worked as a cleaner in Sydney. She had travelled to Melbourne by bus two days before she was killed.
Victorian detectives and Australian Federal Police investigators travelled to Manila in the Philippines last month to interview family members.
A police spokeswoman said the suspect was being brought back to police headquarters at St Kilda Rd for questioning. |
