Hi Guys,

My settlement date is approaching. Just got a little concern here. When I hand over the cheque (30% of purchasing amount of the house) to my conveyancer, Should I ask for a receipt from the conveyancer ??

Another question is, who whould I make my cheque payable to? The owner or the owner's solicitor?

I think you should be able to ask for a receipt from vendor's solicitor. Your conveyancer can't touch the money cos you should make this cheque payable to vendor or vendor's solicitor.

The cheque would be a bank cheque which is not negotiable so there is really no chance it will be banked to unintended accounts. You can get a receipt of course.

The cheque is made out to whoever is on the contract. Your solicitor should be able to tell you.
