The two will launch with Apple's next-generation iOS 7 operating system pre-installed, targeting two distinct price-segments. The iPhone 5C features the same 4-inch screen as the iPhone 5, but replaces its slick aluminum unibody chassis with one made of plastic. To compensate, this plastic will come in a number of color options, which is a nice throwback to the old days of colorful iPods. Its underlying hardware shouldn't be any faster than today's iPhone 5. With it, Apple plans to lure a large chunk of mainstream Android smartphone users, the phone should ship with extremely low upfront contract costs. The iPhone 5S, on the other hand, continues to push the envelope with innovation. It will feature cutting edge hardware, a new biometric security system, a slick aluminum unibody construction, and what's rumored to be a bigger screen than the one its predecessor ships with. Soon after its launch, Apple could discontinue production of the iPhone 5, tweak its pricing, and let the markets digest existing inventories. |
