All right, let us see something positive after the disappointing news about migrant accountants. Here it comes:

Accounting salaries for positions under $100,000 are on the rise by 5 to 7 per cent according to the latest Ambition Accounting and Finance Market Trends and Salaries report for June 2005.

The report – released by recruitment firm Ambition – shows that the accounting and recruitment market has been driven by supply and demand issues for the first half of 2005, with both these drivers easing as the market emerges from its 2004 growth spurt.

Market hot spots include:

part and newly-qualified accounting and finance candidates
government roles encompassing audit, compliance and risk
specialist tax and treasury positions
off-shore accountant and finance positions

Hot skills include:

governance skills
business analysis
audit and product control in a financial services environment

Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II and international financial reporting standards (IFRS)
Ambition predicts the accounting market will remain buoyant for the remainder of 2005 though it is believed that is dependent on a steady economy for China and the United States.
