Senior Network Engineer - IP TransACT | transact.com.au Duties As a senior network engineer for IP systems, participate in the research and testing, design and implementation and documentation of network projects. As a leader or member of a project team, undertake the development and project management of new access strategies or tasks suitable with business requirements. Participate in the formulation of technical and policy advice in relation to future technology directions. Provide 3rd level support to existing network infrastructure in co-operation with the Systems Operations Group Prepare and maintain network software and technical documentation. Consult with system engineers’ video engineering and business systems along with vendors regarding the specification, evaluation and development of access technologies to support TransACT products. Other duties and responsibilities as directed. Selection Criteria Knowledge and Experience A senior network engineer - IP is responsible for the development and operation of the core TransACT IP and Ethernet infrastructure at the direction of the Technology team leader. To achieve this he/she will need expertise operating with Cisco and Juniper equipment and be familiar with routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF and BGP. Experience with Ethernet networks is necessary including familiarity of protocols such as 802.1w, 802.1ah, 802.3ad and QinQ. Knowledge of broadband remote access servers and authentication protocols such RADIUS is highly desirable. Exposure to other networks such as ATM, access networks (SDH, ADSL, VDSL), and wireless is an advantage. Knowledge of network monitoring solutions such as MRTG, Cricket, HPOV and some exposure to Perl and/or Python an advantage. Project Management A senior network engineer is expected to assist their team leader and lead network engineers in project management, network development and deployment as well as project management and must be able to liaise with other staff within the Systems and Technology group, the Systems Operation group and various Business groups. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in small teams or independently in order to deliver projects in a timely manner. Personal Skills and Attributes · Communicates clearly · Achieves results · Works productively with others · Committed to high standards of documentation · Demonstrates integrity Job Description As a senior network engineer the areas of responsibility include the design, development and operation of the TransACT access networks at the direction of the Technology Team Leader and to assist the Systems and Technology group in the delivery of projects. · The Systems and Technology group has the following responsibilities: · Research and Development of new technologies · Delivery of various networks (IP and access) · Integration of networks with various Business systems · Development of provisioning systems · Level 3-4 support of network infrastructure Of these responsibilities the Technology group focuses on the network integration and the development of the network to support the various access networks and systems used for the delivery of services to customers. Specifically the scope of Senior Network Engineer IP includes; · Assist in the planing and design of new core IP infrastructure to meet future business requirements. · Evaluate the network technologies to enable TransACT to deliver new services. · Manage the capacity of the core IP and Ethernet networks and BGP peering with upstream providers. · Expand specific networks such as Metro Ethernet as driven by business requirements. · Provide Level 3-4 support to the business for network faults where they are escalated from or outside the experience of the Systems Operations Group (SOG); · Consult with other groups within the division to determine network requirements to ensure projects are delivered successfully. |
