Check your contract. If you have signed the second year lease, then it is quite normal to have penalty if you break the lease. Actually 1 week rental is quite low. My previoius lease was to cover the advertisement fee, and also all the rental until a new tenant is found.
Afterall, you are breaking a contract. The landlord have a contract with you to guarantee you 1 year of fix rental plus a place to stay, in return you promise you will stay for a year so the landlord knows he/she doesn't need to find another person. The agent usually charge the landlord 1 week rental to sign a contract, so you are not paying too much. if you can break a contract without penalty, why would the landlord bother to have another 1 year lease with you? |
