能种! 只是果实没有悉尼那边好! 要选择朝阳的地方. 我两个朋友家在墨尔本,他们都种了香蕉树.
Blackburn's own `banana man'
A BLACKBURN North man has an inventive way of dealing with the spike in banana prices: he is growing them himself.
Although bananas usually grow in the Queensland tropics, Kevin Cross has had great success with a sapling planted only 18 months ago.
He said the tree was now 5.2m - taller than his house - and was growing between 50 and 60 bananas.
It will create his own supply of the fruit, which has been rare and costly since Cyclone Yasi hit Queensland growing regions in February.
“In case anybody’s wondering if you can grow bananas in Melbourne, the answer is ‘yes’,” Mr Cross said.
Mr Cross said his cousin, who lives in Mackay, had encouraged him to grow the tree and gave him good growing advice.
“He said plant it in front of a brick wall, in good soil facing the north,” he said.
The keen gardener, who has several other fruit trees in his yard, said the secret to his banana tree’s success had been simply lots of water and Dynamic Lifter fertiliser.
He said the Cavendish banana tree he had planted tolerated colder climates, such as Melbourne.
“We’re tickled pink and so are the neighbours,” he said.
