因为，Asia Pacific的time zone,只有我一个人做，所以想找些DB6的高手问问问题，如果有什么事发生的话。在SAP里，没什么人做DB6.

for exsample, 1970-01-01 12:00:00 conver to 0, but if I am in australia, I have to consider the time zone. the most difficult thing is I have to consider the day light saving.(which is slightly different on some year).

I didn't encount this error before, but it looks quite specific. It may be due to the Password expired in AIX.

昨天中午前，我已经搞定了。你是对的，DB6太“安全”了，安装程序，预设的密码，不能直接用，所以有上面的错误。在AIX上logon后，改一下，就可以了。
奇怪的是，SAP notes里，没有提起这件事。

Nothing to do with your DB6 太“安全”

log in to your Aix server, run the following command
$ grep -ip <User ID> /usr/security/user

by default, password will expire every 4 weeks. When it happen, you won't be able to run your application with this user id or connect to local/remote DB with this user id.

you'd better append a line to /etc/security/user, and update your Security Doc, explain to Security team & internal auditor.
# vi /etc/secuirty/user
Append a line like this
maxage = 0
; which means password never expire.

You explanation may be correct on the other issues, but not for mine.

I ran BW installation on DB6, and one user id was created by installation script. And the password of this user ID was set when it was created. And the subsequent steps needed to use this user ID to do the database load. But the user ID could not be used. This user was created on the date, which is same date as the installation scrip ran.

That is interesting.

In Unix, after create a user, you have to login at least once and change the initial password to activate it. Otherwise it is only created, can't do anything with it.

Although there are several tricks to get by, like this
You can put su - <user id> in script to bypass this login restriction, read the password from somewhere else you store and run pwdadm command to clear security bits.

But only root & security group users can run "pwdadm -c". From what you said, i don't think that is the case.
Anyway, be careful with that 4 weeks password expiration.

just run
$ echo $TZ
If you are in NSW, the output should be like this
EET-10EETDT,M10.5.0,M3.5.0
which means Day light saving will start at the last Sunday on Oct, and stop at the last Sunday on March.

Any daemon and process will pick this change automatically. So you don't have to take day light saving into acount at all.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. In this installation, root was used, and same version, BW on Oracle installation was OK. Most of installations are on UNIX, and this was the first time I got this issue. So, I suspect that the problem was on the combination of AIX and DB6. BTW, as this is the application server, we don't have anybody, except SAP Basis and UNIX administrator, to use UNIX, and we don't have expiry on password, there are a bunch of users created years ago, and they are still being used by SAP systems everyday. Anyway, good to know the expiry date.

That is interesting.
It seems auditor never harasses your Sys admin.

If this user just get created, shouldn't have that expiration message. I suspect DB6 tried to use some user id, which created by your previous SAP or whatever else installation. Can tell this by uid, # more /etc/passwd
# pwdck -y
# usrck -y
Will fix those password expiration issue.

Anyway, good luck.

All the systems are in Sweden, and I don't know the audit part in Sweden. Anyway, it's very safe as we do audit the user logons.

You seem be a very experienced AIX or UNIX administrator. Good to know you.

你去找个IBM的做数据库的人，问一下。DB6,不是发展规划命名。这是别名，可以迅速交流，而不用讲一长串。因为这些系统architecture是不同的。

Frankly, DB2 is not as good as Informix and Oralce. But IBM and SAP is global strategic partner. There is a chance for DB2 to replace Oracle as main database of SAP.

是的。

但Oracle也是SAP的global strategic partner. 在SAP的Oracle developer也很多，可能比IBM的人多。

As far as I know, no one in IBM SW and DB2 lab calls it DB6. It's the first time I heard this nickname.

BTW, the problem of yours might be a small bug of installation script. Since DB2 and SAP are 2 products. iinstallation scripts is created to ease of installation by user. But sometimes, bugs lies in it, because the person of SAP lack strong skill of DB2, and those of DB2 technician have not strong skill of SAP.

Anyway, it's a user authenication problem. An easy way to test it is:
1) login in Unix with that user.   
  if OS asks you to change password, or something, that will be a system problem.

2) connect to db2 with 'db2 connect to <dbname> user <username> using <password>
  If the same problem occurs here, then it's purely related to authentication of DB2 server.

3) then check connection from client (similar as what is done from your script, cos the error is reported from CLI).

Last, IBM DB2 center number is 1-800-IBM-serv.

But never tell them you need support for DB6.

I can not remember when SAP signed WW partnership with IBM, probably 2002. Why SAP tried to intruduced IBM to replace Oracle is because Oracle invades ERP market at that time, which is treated by SAP as its back yard. SAP doesn't want to rely on Oracle again.

This problem had already been solved on that day. Thanks for your steps, but obviously you hadn't read all the information here.

IT'S EASY TO FIND 'IBM DB6' INFORMATION ON THE IBM WEBSITE USING GOOGLE. YOU DON'T KNOW, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN IT DOESN'T EXIST. OK?
