我不是专业人士, 但因為自己要建屋，找了很多大大小小的 builders consult.
Basically, Most of the volume builders 只做 waffle slab (in Melbourne). 他们都只说 waffle 好。
但當我去问一些小 builders 和 custom builders 时，他们都不大 suggest waffle slab.(注意：他们什么 slab 也做的)

(Waffle slabs are less expensive, easier to lay, and provide increased insulation. They are ideal for use on flat, natural, well drained soil or controlled fill with good surface strength. Waffle slabs can be used on non reactive soil sites or sites with mild to moderately reactive clay. However, waffle slabs are really limited in their use for these types of sites. Because they sit on top of the ground they do not do well in highly reactive areas, sloping sites, in soft ground conditions, or in areas known for high winds.
Although they are the costlier and take more time to construct raft concrete slabs are much more versatile and can be used on virtually any type of site. Raft slabs can be modified to suit the requirements of the soil, geology and elements on the site and they are the only choice if you are building on anything other than flat ground.)
人家 Latitude 37 什么 slab 也做过我相信他们的判斷...
(p.s. 最好的是 suspended slab, but it is too expensive.)
btw, I am not arguing with you, I only want to share what I have been told.

It says: While newer than raft slabs, the popularity of waffle slabs have been soaring, because of the ease of construction and generally lower labour cost. However, while more expensive, raft slabs are stiffer than a waffle slab and less susceptible to ground movement or swelling. There have been cases in Melbourne’s west and north where the soil swelling has distorted waffle slabs and homes have cracked. This shows that while waffle sites perform perfectly for some sites, they are not suitable for all.

I am not sure where you live, maybe the soil & waffle slab builders in your state are better than those in Melbourne
