看美剧学英文

看电影电视是学英文的好方法之一，最大优点是不枯燥。打着开卷有益的名号，可以正大光明地消遣。
另外一大好处是可以将语境记得清楚，不至于从书本上学到就在生活中乱用招致尴尬局面。

看美剧 supernatural的时候，一个酒吧招待说有人喝酒闹事，他不得不８６them.

查了一下：When used as a verb in American English, eighty-six, eighty-sixed, 86, 86ed, 86'd, and the like are slang for getting rid of something, ejecting someone, or refusing service.

美剧排行榜很多啊。看你的喜好吧。

我最近在看Supernatural.

从剧情上来说，有两兄弟背负父母仇和名目众多的邪灵不共戴天的悲情，以凡人血肉之躯出生入死的悲壮，兄弟之间性格强烈冲突又并肩作战的手足情深。

从英文语言文化学习来说，穿插很多民间灵异传说 （比如bloody Mary)，别的场合很难学到。两兄弟要做大量调查工作，和各色人等打交道，有很多日常用语很有意思。比如，８６。

BTW, 还有一大好处就是已经拍了十季了，不至于看几天就闹剧荒。

同意這種學習方法，我之前看美劇時也是記下一些當用表達，特別是那些字面意思跟實意不一樣的詞組。然後跟鬼佬同學同事聊天時，遇到恰當的時候就拿出來用。他們可能覺得沒什麼因為平時用詞習慣了，但自己會覺得能以local的語言表達出來是經過多少努力和平時的積累啊。

不错，应用是王道。假如别人约你吃饭，你又不想去。你轻描淡写地说：I'm feeling a bit under the weather, can we have a rain check? 感觉比 Sorry,I can't make it.好太多了。

看纸牌屋的时候，Frank说，I may be able to turn Linda's bad luck into my good fortune.

我觉得 turn bad luck into good fortune 应该是用得上的。工作中尤其能表现 positive attitude.

新闻里学到的也来凑个数吧。沙特穆斯林朝圣踩踏事件里，＂朝圣＂和＂踩踏＂是两个关键词。

stampede /stæmˈpid/ 看英文解释是人群（或兽群）涌动骚乱的意思。踩踏只是结果之一。中外媒体的新闻点抓的有细微差别。
noun
2. any headlong general flight or rush.
verb (used without object), stampeded, stampeding.  
4.to scatter or flee in a stampede:
People stampeded from the burning theater.
5.to make a general rush:
On hearing of the sale, they stampeded to the store.
verb (used with object), stampeded, stampeding.

7.to rush or overrun (a place):
Customers stampeded the stores.

pilgrimage /ˈpɪl grə mɪdʒ/ 朝圣的翻译应该是很准确。

2.Islam.  a. the Pilgrimage, hajj.
b. ʿumrah.

Mec-ca /ˈmɛk ə/ 顺便学习一下麦加，小写的话可以泛指圣地。   
noun  
1.Also, Makkah, Mekka. a city in and the capital of Hejaz, in W Saudi Arabia: birthplace of Muhammad; spiritual center of Islam.
2. (often lowercase) any place that many people visit or hope to visit:
The president's birthplace is a mecca for his admirers.

这两个词比较生僻，怎么记得住是个问题。大家可以讨论一下。我先抛块砖。
stampede：虽然是英文的真实意思是（人群）涌动，踩踏确是好像不可避免，这也是google translate翻译的中文意思。不妨从这个角度想。 stamp 有踩踏的意思，ede可以想象成有人躺着（被踩）有人站着（踩人）。
pilgrimage:中文意思是朝圣，大概和宗教脱不了干系。能朝圣的都是比较虔诚甚至狂热的信徒。普通人要是狂热了，一般大家都开玩笑说是吃错药了。这个词的前半段pil(l)可以想象成药丸，后半段image想象成幻觉。中间的gr(ow)可以想象成药性慢慢发作的感觉。

补充一下，特指麦加朝圣的是
hajj   or haj, hadj /hædʒ/   
noun, plural hajjes.  
1. the pilgrimage to Mecca, which every adult Muslim is supposed to make at least once in his or her lifetime: the fifth of the Pillars of Islam.

学习英文特别是口语的时候，我觉得要注意恰到好处的表现自己的幽默感。

看美剧 falling skies 里面有一句话印象深刻。

Fate will throw you a favour every once in a while, we just have to stick around to catch it.

noun, Psychiatry.  恋童癖这个词在媒体出现频率很高。
1. an adult who is sexually attracted to young children.

老外也是一样，聊天时都是没几句就聊上世界新闻。结合新闻的语境比较容易记住一些不常用的词。一旦聊天用上，那是很惊艳的感觉啊。

今天这个常用：like father, like son.也可用于like mother, like daughter.
＂有其父必有其子＂的意思。

今天看了群众制服持刀女悍匪的新闻，有几个知识点要强调一下。

Citizen's Arrest 普通民众制服（送交法办），以前听说过这个词，复习一下。
Hold-up 这里是抢劫的意思，以前只知道拖延的意思。
noun

2.a stop or delay in the progress of something:
There was a holdup in the construction of the bridge.
3.an instance of being charged excessively.   

Overpower 压倒／制服。这个词很好记，可以用在很多地方。

辛迪加，很多时候指财团，估计这里是团伙的意思。

看了super natural 里说：see if you can make head or tail of it.
意思是你能不能弄明白。

查了下字典，否定式好象更常见。
can't make head or tail of：

现在媒体很多，我个人倾向听广播（ABC RADIO就不错）。好处是时间灵活，上下班路上就可以听。另外比较大的事件会滚动播出，并开展各角度辩论，对关键词的加深记忆，和常见辩论思路有很大帮助。

当然这是泛听，能录下来反复精听，直到默写出所有词当然最好。网上也可以查最新新闻（google: just in ABC news).
