1. Laser does a better job with document printing.
2. Color laser is not very cheap yet - with inkjet, color printing is everywhere. In fact it's harder to find a monochrome inkjet nowadays.
3. When printing color photo with laser, you CAN NOT use glossy photo paper. Your printer will get damaged by it. So the print quality is quite limited.
4. With inkjet, they probably all can print on glossy photo paper, and the picture quality can match those of photo print shops, but a lot of them are not water-proof, meaning if you drop your picture in water or drop your drink on it, you could just ruin the picture. However there are some specific models of inkjet that can print water-proof photoes, and some other can actually laminate your photo so that it can last forever.
5. Cartridges are the real deal when buying a printer - fortunately there are lots of OEM inks for inkjets and refilled toners for lasers to choose from. I have a Canon PIXMA 780 multi-function. It needs 5 cartridges to run properly, and the cost to replace all 5 of them, with OEM ones, are 25 dollars; with authentic CANON ones, that will cost me 100+. The printing effect are virtually the same to my eyes.
6. I would recommend a CANON multi function if you don't require high volume document printing, and prefer to have some other functionalities as well. For example, my PIXMA 780 is a printer, a fax machine with answering, a scanner, a copier, a auto-duplexer, and best of all, a CD/DVD printer. I just love the CD/DVD printing functionality. It's so much fun creating your own video/pic/software/game/doc CD with it. |
