The Australian radio industry launched DAB+ in a phased introduction in May 2009 in five key cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Commercial services will be licensed on a market basis (with 109 license areas across the continent). The public broadcasters have been licensed for national coverage. The Australian radio industry plans to invest $400 million over the coming years to roll out digital radio across the country. The Commercial Radio Australia group has brought the industry together to support the roll out of DAB+ digital radio providing information to the broadcasters, retailers, regulator and car industry on planned services and other important tools such as marketing and promotional information. DAB+ is strongly branded in Australia as ‘Digital Radio Plus’ with a website offering consumers and the industry clear information - www.digitalradioplus.com.au
