Interpreter tells of seeing man covered in blood in Victorian Police cell in Dandenong

A man died just after leaving Victoria Police custody
A WOMAN has told how she saw a man lying bleeding in a police cell after he was arrested for allegedly being drunk.
The homicide squad is investigating after the man died in hospital the morning after his arrest.
"JJ" said she was called to the Dandenong Police Station on May 12 at about 7.45pm (AEST) to interpret for the Chinese man.
She said police were conducting the interview through the window in the cell door because the man had soiled himself.
"When I looked through I saw blood everywhere in the cell and he was on the floor yelling he needed to go to the hospital, he was in pain," she told 3AW.
"He called out (in English) 'I can't take this any more I need to go to the hospital'."
"JJ" said police then left to organise the man's bail and a short time later he was released from the cell.
She claims officers unlocked the door and yelled at him to get out.
"I saw him crawling on his knees and hands like a dog ... and saying 'I can't stand up, I can't stand up'," she said.
"He was yelling as if someone was killing him."
She claims police then threw the man out of the station where he collapsed on the pavement just before 9pm.
She said she and two officers went to help the man and an ambulance was called.
She claims police told her the man was sick and was already dying.
She said the man was aged in his 50s and had a 15-year-old daughter.
A police spokeswoman said the homicide squad and Ethical Standards Department were investigating.
Jay Jay said police had taken a video while interviewing the man.
She contacted the radio station after hearing of another death in police custody on Monday.
In a separate incident, a disturbed 23-year-old Meadow Heights man died in custody after being restrained by up to six police officers.
Emergency services were called to the man's home at 2.10am (AEST), after he had burnt his hand in boiling water and was acting irrationally.
After being taken into custody for his own safety, police took the man to the Broadmeadows police station, where he was held to the ground and then sedated by ambulance officers.
He was put in an ambulance, along with two police officers, and was being taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital when his condition deteriorated.
Despite receiving CPR, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4.45am.
The homicide squad and Ethical Standards Department are investigating.
