The man who will deliver the ashes of murdered student Irene Yin to her frail elderly parents in China says the slain family may have been victims of revenge.
Irene Yin, 39, was beaten to death alongside four members of her sister's family - newsagents Yun Li Lin, 43, her husband Min Lin, 45, and the couple's sons Henry, 12, and Terry, nine.
Their daughter Brenda, 15, is the only surviving family member, having been overseas on a school trip at the time of the killings.
Ms Yin was a mature-age business student at Macquarie University and her uncle, Bo Xi Lu, an engineer, travelled to Sydney from Yunnan in southwest China, to represent her parents at the Lin family's funeral.
He said Ms Yin's parents are not in good health and could not make the journey to Sydney.
Through a translator, Mr Lu told reporters he was happy with the police investigation so far, but wanted to see further evidence the murders were not a revenge attack, connected to them giving police assistance following an armed robbery.
"(Although the police have ruled it out) he wants to see more evidence," his translator said.
"This tragedy is beyond imagination ... he wishes they find the killer as soon as possible."
The Epping newsagents were good and well respected business people, Mr Lu said.
He described Australia as beautiful and said his family members do not regret that the Lins migrated here.
Mr Lu will be joined by another family member coming from Singapore for the funeral on August 8.
He said he had met with Brenda: "She's really sad," he said through the translator.
"She told him, 'When I grow up I will go to ... look after my grandparents."
A public funeral will be held for the family on Saturday August 8 from 11am (AEST) at Badgery Pavilion in Sydney Olympic Park. |
