12月10日消息，今年的圣诞节及新年前夜，维州乘客将可以获得免费乘坐郊线及市区公共交通工具的机会。新年前夜，墨尔本的有轨电车，火车，公交巴士将通宵营业。

维州交通部长Lynne Kosky表示，维州政府已经连续第三年实施免费乘车政策，以缓解交通压力。她说，圣诞新年期间是传统的家庭成员团聚时刻，为了缓解交通压力，降低交通事故发生率，公共交通部门将继续在圣诞节及新年前夜向广大市民提供免费的乘车服务。

Lynne Kosky呼吁人们尽量少使用私家车，尽可能多地使用公共交通工具。

圣诞节当天，新年前夕下午6点以后及2008年元旦第一班服务，搭乘郊线列车或巴士来墨尔本，使用市区公共交通工具的乘客都可获得免费乘车的机会。

CHRISTMAS and New Year's Eve revellers are to get a free ride. The Government is providing free travel on metropolitan buses, trains and trams on December 25 and from 6pm on December 31.

It is part of a government push to cut the road toll by encouraging revellers to leave their cars at home.

Trains, trams and buses will run all night on New Year's Eve to get partygoers safely and quickly in and out of the city.

Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky said it was the third consecutive year the Government had made the free transport available at Christmas and New Year.

"Too often these celebrations are marred by tragedy on our roads," Ms Kosky said.

TRAINS, trams and buses travelling around metropolitan Melbourne will be free all day and night on December 25 and from 6pm on December 31 until the first scheduled trip the next morning, January 1.

V/LINE passengers will travel free on Christmas Day and on services arriving in Melbourne after 6pm on New Year's Eve. They will also have a free ride on January 1's first service.

CONNEX will run its trains to a Sunday timetable on Christmas Day, as will Yarra Trams.

THE City Circle trams will not run on Christmas Day.

BUSES will run to a special timetable on Christmas Day.

CONNEX will run trains all night on New Year's Eve.

YARRA Trams will run a Saturday timetable on New Year's Eve, plus all-night services.

NIGHTRIDER bus services will run half-hourly from 12.30am, leaving Collins St between Swanston and Russell streets on New Year's Eve.

BUSES will operate on all nine routes until 4.30am; there'll be an extra 5.30am service on the Eltham route and 5.30am, 6.30am and 7.30am services on the Dandenong route.

Ms Kosky said Flinders Street and Southern Cross stations would be open all night on New Year's Eve.

Parents with prams and people with disabilities will be given priority access to the concourse and the lifts.

"Free travel arrangements mean New Year's Eve revellers will not have to cut their celebrations short to catch the last tram or train, as metropolitan public transport will run all night," Ms Kosky said.

"I urge people to take advantage of this great opportunity to leave the car at home.

"We also suggest people heading into the CBD on New Year's Eve plan their journey ahead of time. A little preparation can go a long way towards avoiding the crowds and getting home quickly and safely."

Ms Kosky said the free travel had been arranged through a partnership between the Government and the public transport operators, Connex, Yarra Trams and V/Line.

2008年元旦除夕夜  墨尔本将举行焰火表演

据报道，墨尔本市市长苏震西(John So) 12月10日在一项声明中表示，他对新州的Howard and Sons烟火公司将有能力为整套焰火表演提供足够的烟花，使表演按计划进行很有信心。

墨市市场及活动部主席Carl Jetter说，除夕将会有一整套的免费娱乐节目。他说，尽管焰火表演是庆祝新年的重要节目，但它也只是城市迎接新年来临一系列娱乐节目中的一项。


今年墨市的新年庆祝活动将在以下地点举行：

Melbourne's New Year's Eve fireworks are expected to go ahead, despite the massive explosion that destroyed much of the NSW factory which supplies the city's pyrotechnic display.

Melbourne Lord Mayor John So said he was confident fireworks company Howard and Sons would still provide a full program.

"At this stage, we anticipate that all elements of the New Year's Eve celebrations will continue as planned and we will be working closely with Howard and Sons Pyrotechnics displays over the coming weeks to ensure the full fireworks program goes ahead," Mayor So said in a statement.

City of Melbourne's marketing and events chairman Carl Jetter said New Year's Eve revellers would be offered a full program of free entertainment.

"Whilst the firework displays are a significant attraction for New Year's Eve festivities, it is important to note that they are just one component of the extensive free entertainment program taking place across the whole of the city to welcome 2008," Mr Jetter said.

This year's celebrations will take place at the Royal Exhibition Buildings, Birrarung Marr, Alexandra Gardens, Federation Square, Southgate, NewQuay and Waterfront City and Docklands.

The massive blast at the Wallerawang factory near Lithgow destroyed or damaged all 50 buildings on the 154 hectare property.

Police suspect an intruder may be responsible for the explosion that devastated the family-owned business.

New Year's Eve in the City


Fireworks

Fireworks on the Yarra RiverIn 2007, the City will celebrate New Year's Eve with two spectacular fireworks shows at 9.15pm and midnight. Both shows will be viewable across the City and in Docklands. However, Southgate and the Royal Exhibition Building will offer midnight fireworks viewing only.

Both displays will be set to a Top 40 fireworks soundtrack. The music will be broadcast at Birrarung Marr, Alexandra Gardens, NewQuay and Waterfront City, celebrating the hit songs of 2007. You can also tune in to the soundtrack at home by listening to 99.7fm before 9.15pm and midnight.

Best Viewing Sites

Please note, the New Year's Eve in the City fireworks will not be viewable from Princes Bridge. This area will be a managed thoroughfare only, and a “No Stopping” policy will apply.

9.15pm Family Fireworks


Best viewing sites are Birrarung Marr, Alexandra Gardens, Federation Square, NewQuay and Waterfront City.

Tips for enjoying the family fireworks presentation:

    * Avoid crowds at Flinders Street Station. Birrarung Marr, Alexandra Gardens, NewQuay & Waterfront City have great entertainment on offer and can be reached without using busy Flinders Street Station.
    * Those attending NewQuay & Waterfront City events should use Southern Cross Station (formerly Spencer Street Station).
    * For those heading to the Alexandra Gardens & Birrarung Marr, take the train to Richmond Station and enjoy a walk along Swan Street.
    * Families may wish to leave the city shortly after the 9.15pm fireworks presentation at 9.25pm to avoid large crowds coming into the city for midnight celebrations.
    * Prams and pushers that can fold down are better for travel on public transport.
    * Flinders Street Station will be very busy so choose an alternative place to meet family and friends.


Midnight Fireworks Spectacular
The fireworks will be viewable right across the City and Docklands with every entertainment site providing ideal views of the fireworks spectacular.

谢谢月亮的提醒。两年前的新年前夕是44度，下午那个热啊，就像在烤箱里。不过到了晚上看烟花的时候温度就下来了，只有二十几度。墨尔本的日温差很大的。
