教育专家们针对学校给低龄学生布置作业表示,这样做完全是浪费时间,尤其是对那些才5岁的学前班儿童。
Kathy Walker
Experts slam homework as a waste of time

HOMEWORK is a waste of time in the early years, despite many schools starting it in prep.
Pushy parents have fuelled an environment in which schools feel they must give lots of homework, says education consultant Kathy Walker.
She believes it is unnecessary for five-year-olds.
"The best homework is playing, relaxing, spending time together as a family, and parents and children reading and sharing books together each day," she said.
Ms Walker said some parents mistakenly believed their child would do better if they did lots of homework. A child starting in prep would have no advantage over one who didn't, and would probably be turned off it by grade 4.
"Traditionally, many of us were brought up believing that the more homework you were given, the better learner you would be and the more prepared you would be for future life," she said.
"There is no research that indicates homework makes a happier or more successful learner or person in life."
In her book What's the Hurry? Ms Walker says she doesn't think homework is important at primary school.
"From grades 5 and 6it might be that some children may work on particular aspects of their learning at home as well as school in small doses," she said.
Psychologist Andrew Fuller said after grade 2 some independent homework time was "beneficial for academic outcomes". "Up until grade 2, basically you're better off playing," he said.
Apart from reading, retired teacher Monika Critchley did not give preps homework in the 12 years she taught them. But she said teachers felt pressured to do so by parents.
"I would start a little bit of homework, say in grade 4," she said. "Only because I think it does teach them to start organising their time and that does prepare them for high school."
State Government homework guidelines say prep to grade 4 homework should not be seen as a chore and should "enable the extension of class work by practising skills or gathering extra information or materials".
It should also include daily reading to, with, and by parents/care givers or older siblings, and generally not exceed 30 minutes a day or be set on weekends or holidays。 |
