《The Road that leads home》
I left the shores of Galway Bay When dawn was barely born,
The Aran Islands fading grey Behind a veil of morn,
The currach pulled through salted waves While curlews called my name,
And something in the western wind Said I would not be the same.
Oh Ireland, oh Ireland, Your hills are in my blood,
From the shores of wild Connemara To the valleys deep in mud,
Every stone and every river, Every road I've ever known,
No matter where my feet have wandered, Ireland calls me home.

Through Connemara's marble bogs Where silence has a weight,
I passed the shadow of Croagh Patrick Standing cold and great,
The heather burned in shades of gold Beneath an iron sky,
And all the pilgrims on the mountain Never wondered why.
I walked the Burren's limestone plain Where flowers grow in cracks,
The Cliffs of Moher roared below me And the ocean turned to black,
Down through the Ring of Kerry then Where every bend reveals
A country that was never meant For ordinary wheels.
Oh Ireland, oh Ireland, Your hills are in my blood,
From the shores of wild Connemara To the valleys deep in mud,
Every stone and every river, Every road I've ever known,
No matter where my feet have wandered, Ireland calls me home.

There are those who left these shores for good And never did return,
Who carried Ireland in their chest Like something still that burned,
I am not them, I know the road That leads me to my door,
But I have walked enough tonight To love this land the more.
In Ulster's fields I heard the drums That beat since ancient days,
The Giant's Causeway stood unmoved Through all its tangled haze,
The Glens of Antrim held the light In seventeen shades of green,
And Derry's walls still carry words Of everything between.
Oh Ireland, oh Ireland, Your hills are in my blood,
From the shores of wild Connemara To the valleys deep in mud,
Every stone and every river, Every road I've ever known,
No matter where my feet have wandered, Ireland calls me home.

Through Wicklow's glens and Boyne's old fields Where history lies in soil,
The passage tombs at Newgrange wait For those who seek and toil,
Then Dublin rose in lamplight warm With voices, rain and song,
I stood upon the Ha'penny Bridge And knew I'd been too long.
Oh Ireland, oh Ireland, Your hills are in my blood,
From the shores of wild Connemara To the valleys deep in mud,
Every stone and every river, Every road I've ever known,
No matter where my feet have wandered, Ireland calls me home.

Now the road has brought me back again To where the journey starts,
The western sea is red tonight And soft with ancient hearts,
I'll lay my boots beside the door And watch the embers glow,
For every road through Ireland leads To somewhere that you know.
