还是学英语吧

开个贴学英语，新闻内容已经是过去时了，当时的死亡人数还是17人，不过这几个句子作为学习如何表述一件事情，对我还是有帮助的，三个句子说的是同一件事，武汉冠状病毒，但在表述上略有不同：

第一句：
There could be an outbreak of a deadly new virus. The coronavirus started in Wuhan, China. It has killed 17 people and has spread to the USA, Japan, Korea and Thailand.

第二句：
The world is preparing for a possible outbreak of a deadly new virus. The coronavirus started in the Chinese city of Wuhan. It has killed 17 people. Over 540 people are in hospital. It has spread to the USA, Japan, Korea and Thailand.

第三局：
Nations around the world are preparing for a possible major outbreak of a new deadly virus. The coronavirus, which started in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has already killed 17 people. It has spread to the USA, Japan, Korea and Thailand. More than 540 people have caught the virus and are in hospital

我先瞎理解一下，
1，There could be an outbreak of a deadly new virus.
2，The world is preparing for a possible outbreak of a deadly new virus.
3，Nations around the world are preparing for a possible major outbreak of a new deadly virus.


首先，那个有可能会爆发，

第一句用的是 there could be， 在后面两句中用的是possible

然后第一句说了有可能爆发，没提在哪儿爆发，也没提应对反应。 第二句补充了The world are preparing for, 说明了这个爆发可能是世界范围内的，而且人类正在防范。 第三句虽然意思一样，但换了一种说法 Nations around the world are preparing for a possible major outbreak..., 世界各国，并加了major 强调了是大爆发。

长话短说和短话长说难度都不小，写概要时要求长话短说，但不能漏掉重要信息，铺开叙述时，要短话长谈以补充进跟多的信息和细节，但细节不能喧宾夺主，所以我至今两个都不会

指出疫情发生地是武汉,第一句 in Wuhan,China. 第二句略加变化 in the Chinese city of Wuhan. 第三句插入了一个从句，which started in the ...

Spread 是个不规则动词，现在式过去式和过去分词都同型。

第二句比第一句多了一点信息，Over 540 people are in the hospital. 第三句换了一种说法，More than替换掉Over，明确指出那540多人have caught the virus

从句型结构上来看，2最差，用了四个简单句来叙述。

接着来，下面又是三段近似的描述：

1. China is telling people not to panic. The Chinese New Year is next week. Millions of people will travel across China to be with their families. Wuhan has stopped its public transport systems to help stop the spread of the virus.

2. China is telling people not to panic. The Chinese New Year is next week and millions of people will travel across China to spend the holiday with their families. Meanwhile, Wuhan has suspended its public transport systems to help stop the spread of the virus.

3. China is urging people not to panic ahead of the Chinese New Year next week. Millions of Chinese will be travelling across the country to spend the holiday season with their families. Meanwhile, the city of Wuhan has suspended its public transport systems to help stop the spread of the virus.

告诉民众不要恐慌，前两个用的都是telling（告知），而下周过农历新年是另起一句，感觉因果关系不够紧密。
第三个把telling换成是urging（力劝）明显语气比前两个强很多，而且指明不要恐慌即将到来的新年，并在新年加了一个小修饰ahead of.

全国各地会有数百万人赶回家过年
to be with their families; to spend the holiday with their families; to spend the holiday season with their families.

武汉封城关闭了公共交通
Wuhan has stopped its public transport systems
第一句用的stopped后两句用suspended替换了stopped

(coronavirus前面加了形容词 new, 另外指明是Wuhan的市场）

3. The new coronavirus is suspected to have come from illegally traded animals in a Wuhan market.
( may 换成了 is suspected to, 动物的前面加了illegally traded）

用mutated替换掉了changed

版主的回答让我想起当年在west Ryde 那个社区学习英语的情景，6－7个学生，主要是南朝鲜人再加上我和另一位越南学生。老师是位退休了的校長（没有问是小学还是初中高中学校校长），每次上课都认真负责，不仅准备充分还提供学习资料（碰到今日之状况，肯定也会准备许多英文报道信息资料给我们学习），真是一位了不起的英语教学志愿者。

我第一次从他嘴里听到，在西方国家，新闻新闻就是坏消息，冲击了我过往的认知。现在看来，基本如此，大部分break news 基本都是坏消息。

对，刚来时极不适应，国内新闻都是形势一片大好，越来越好；
这里就是今天车祸了，明天杀人了。。。

再一次用mutate 替换掉change，然后There are fears (that) it could mutate ..., 加入了人的感受， 并用further替换掉more

1. The virus is catching. It passes to people through the air. (病毒是有传染性的，它通过空气传播给人类。）

2. The virus is contagious. It can pass from person to person through the air. （病毒具有传染性，它能通过空气从一个人传播给另一个人。）

( 用 contagious 替换 catching，It can pass from ... to ...替换掉 It passes to...)

3. Scientists say the virus is contagious and can be passed from person to person through the air.

（ 增加了Scientists say 更具权威性，... and (it) can be..., 两句合并为一句，结果更紧凑。

1. A virologist said the new coronavirus is like SARS, but different. He said it has pneumonia-like symptoms, such as fever, cough and breathing problems.

2. Virologist Dr Linfa Wang said the new coronavirus is in the same family as SARS, but it's different from SARS. He said people should look for pneumonia-like symptoms, such as fever, cough and breathing problems.

与第一段相比：
( 增加了病毒学家的姓名，in the same family as SARS = like SARS,  different = different from, people should look for 替换 it has）

3. Dr Linfa Wang, a virologist at the Duke-National University of Singapore, said the new coronavirus is in the same family as SARS, but it's different from SARS. He said people needed to look for pneumonia-like symptoms, such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing.

（ Virologist Dr Linfa Wang 头衔与姓名间无逗号分隔，本句Dr Linfa Wang 与a virologist 之间有逗号隔开，是并列关系，并增加了其工作单位信息，needed to 替换了should,  而difficult breathing 替换了 breathing problems.)

貌似第一句说的意思没有第二句第三句说的全面，对病毒严重程度的表达也不一样。

不是我自己写的，是我努力的方向，我希望自己也具备这个能力。

这三句针对的学生水平不同，所以难易程度也不同，第一句一般用简单的词汇，句型也尽量简单。

第三句会换一些书面语，表达的内容更多些，句子也相对长一些。

第二句介于两者之间。
